Overdue Movie Reviews Pt 2

okay . they are a little later than i said they might be lol

Howl's Moving Castle - wow . another amazing animated film by the godfather of japanese animated cinema , Hayao Miyazaki . if you have never seen one of his other films like 'Spirited Away' , 'Princess Mononoke' or 'Kiki's Delivery Service" , you are missing one of the masters of film . he takes you into fantastical worlds of wild imagination in every film he makes and this movie is no different . make sure you see this movie . its excellent

Harry Potter & the I forgot What It Was - this wont be a knock on the kid's books or the vastly popular kid's movies . i just dont remember which one it was i saw . the books and movies all seem to follow the exact same formula and since it was a few months ago i cant remember what the villain was . all i do remmeber was that the kids were particularily nasty and getting older hasnt helped their appeal . all of these movies are good children's fare and worth it if they were to come on tv . dunno if they are worth looking for though

After Life - this japanese film was amazing . the premise is people arrive at a portal after dying where they have to choose and recreate one moment from thieir lives before they can move on . the movie interlaces the newly dead and the people who work to help them do their recreations . it elicits many interesting ideas and thoughts and the many plotlines are expertly woven . a truly original wonderful movie

World's Fastest Indian - this is a interesting film . when i saw the trailers for it , i expected it would be a lot of motorcycles on the salt tracks in utah . a lot of zooooooooom . while there is some of that , the movie is the true story of a stubborn old man and his old motorcycle making the journey from new zealand to bonneville on a limited budget . its about his journey there and it was a very enjoyable trip . anthony hopkins is excellent as usual and that only helps make this movie better

Man on a Train - this is a very cool movie from france about a kindly old man who takes on a suspicious border who has just arrived by train . at first the two men are very opposite , but the relationship between them grows thoughout the film and is really what makes this movie so great . this is one of those great french films that make you wish hollywood had a little more patience to take the time and develop characters and plot .

Rumor Has It - what the hell has happened to rob reiner ? he used to be a good director , but lately his movies are just crap . this movie is hard to understand why its so bad . it has a good cast and a premise that should have been all you needed for a great movie . who were the real people who inspired "the graduate" and what would happen if the secret was revealed 20 yrs later . that should be a great movie . instead you get some really bogged downed scenes and inconsistent acting performances that slowly move to he wacky when wacky isnt needed . shirley mclean delivers the best performance , but its not nearly enough to save this lousy movie

Darwin's Nightmare - How this Documentary won the Oscar is beyond me . this is everything a documentary shouldnt be , a meandering look at a serious subject . its like the filmmakers were trying to find a special unifying theme to bind everything together into one great theme , but gave up when they thought of the title . anyone can takle a camera around to harsh experiences and conditions . a good filmmaker makes you feel deeply about its subjects . this didnt do that at all

Match Point - all through this movie i was wondering what was nagging at me and then it hit me , i missed new york . its a woody allen movie set in london and i dunno if its the difference of energy between the two cities or what , but it just wasnt right . it didnt help that i didnt like the male lead , i found him to be drab amongst much brighter characters that surrounded him . its not a bad movie . its just not a very good one either . its just okay and thats just not a good place for a woody allen movie to be

Tristan & Isolde - wow the movie site sucks and the song has absolutely nothing to do with this movie lol . this is a pretty good movie . its the story of the famous opera , with out all the singing . its a pre camelot story of the warring tribes of ireland and england . theres fighting , plottting , treachery , deceit and romance , in a rather competent telling of the tale . its not the greatest movie you will ever see , but it is worth seeing on dvd , when you're in a kinda king arthurian mood .

Breakfast on Pluto - this was a very very cool movie . it follows the tale of a boy who grows up to be a girl amongst the irish troubles during the 60s and 70s . its directed by neil jordan (the crying game) so if you are a bigot , you will not like this movie . if you are a decent human being however , you should enjoy this tale . though it does bog down occasionally , its for the greater good . there are moments of beauty and poignancy in this movie that need earlier info in order to happen . this movie is shocking , moving and great

Enjoy !!
