that's the good news . it means i no longer have toxic levels of iron in my blood . the bad news is the doctor wants me to get down to 150 , which means the summer bbq season is going to seriously lack lamb , ribs and steaks . *sigh* it just wont be the same , though i suspect that a little cheating will happen every now and then . *grin*

first off , props to ed begley jr. while i was waiting to see the davinci code , i was beside the actor who is in town filming a tv show . what a down to earth good guy he is too . not a trace of ego , just a nice guy all round . we chatted about electric cars and the new christopher guest movie (out next october, woohoo !) . if you ever come acorss mr begley , treat him well . hes a good lad
its been ages since i have done a movie post . in fact i had forgotten to do some from a couple of months ago . so if you are going to be checking out a movie d\or dvd , i hope i can be of some help
The Da Vinci Code - you just knew there was soimething wrong with all the horrible reviews that came out when this movie opened at cannes . if you looked closer , you would have noticed that you had never heard of any of these so called reviewers before . all the negativity is completely uncalled for . think about it . tom hanks in a ron howard movie that sucks ? its just not going to happen . this is a good movie . its not a great movie , but it is entertaining and fun . its well acted and beautifully shot . my biggest prob was the movie lacked the best part of the book , the pacing . the movie should have had that page turner suspense that the book had and it would have been much better . its still a good movie and worth seeing . as for blasphemy , the movie bends over backwards to disassociate the catholic church from the renegade bad guys in the film and if your grasp of your religion is threatened by the idea that jesus could have had a wife , may god help your soul , its in need of repair
Jarhead - to be truthful , i hardly remember this movie . its wasnt bad , it wasnt good , but its a standard fare look at war and troops except this time set in iraq . good cast . well acted . not memorable
Cache - this is a very very cool film from France , that left me feeling a tad paranoid walking out of the theatre . its the story of ppl who receive video tapes of their house fropm a starger and how they deal with them . the movie is very psychological and the ending is very much left up in the air . the intentional slow pace adds to the mystery and makes you feel as uncomfortable as the characters . that may sound bad , but it isnt . this movie moves you and its excellent . see it before the american version comes out , which will surely suck after hollywood gets its grubby hands on it
Sexy Beast - i saw this again on tv a few weeks back and just had to add this to the list . its a small british film that is a real diamond in the rough . its about retired thieves living in spain , whose past rears its ugly head in the form of an uber violent ben kingsley . the movie moves from rive gauche to fear to hilarity to a robbery and you are there every step of the way . a very good movie
The Squid & The Whale - i think this movie may have won a best screenplay oscar , but dont let that encourage you to go see it , unless you want to spend a miserable couple of hours watching a broken family bicker . sure its well acted , but its still a whole lotta whining and bickering .
A History of Violence - i was really looking forward to this movie , but was really disappointed . i had 2 probs with this movie . i hated the kid and didnt care what he was going through at all . i also was expecting a more violent ending . the whole movie seemd to be leading up to a uberviolent ending and that would be the message of the film . instead the ending was really kinda lame when compared to a lot of other movies out there .
The Chronicles of Narnia - this is another movie where my opinion is based in my dislike of the charcaters . i couldnt give a damn about the kids in this movie . i found nothing likable about them , so that affected my view of their adventures . i just didnt care . i suspect that in a few years there will be a longer dvd version of this movie . the plot seems to encompass too much for a typical movie time limit . in a larger version i am sure what was cut out will make this movie less disjointed at the end . if you are a fan of the books , i am sure you will like it though , if you can handle those annoying kids
The New World - its by terrence malick . its long . theres moody visual scenery with character thoughts as voice over in between good actors with a few good scenes . not enough to save this movie however .a movie about jamestown could have been very interesting . this wasnt . i am not a fan of malick and this movie did nothing to change that
Hero - did you watch crouching tiger , liked the fight scenes and the visuals but wished the rest of the plot was better ? if you did , this is the movie for you . this movie has all the cool fight scenes , a similar cast , stunning visuals , amazing choreography and a plot ! this is a very cool movie . well shot , well acted and gorgeous to look at
King Kong - a lot of people really liked this movie . i wasnt one of them . if you had editted out adrian brody (and maybe a dinosaur or 2) , that would cut an hour out of this movie and it would have been much better . i have nothing against mr brody or his acting . it just that his part was totally unnecessary . think about it . if the movie had ended with kong falling off the empire state bulding that would have driven home the poignancy of the beauty and the beast story . instead , kong falls and brody pops up and they have a golly gee hug moment . the movie was called king kong . not whatever brody's character's name was .
Where the Truth Lies - this is the type of movie that is best seen if you are flipping the channels by yourself and come across it . it is not a great film , but its a good one . it is a moody look at a hollywood scandal . it is sordid (as any good scandal should be) and its stylistic . it looks at the scandal from all perspectives and even has a couple of good twists at the end . the cinematography is excellent ands it is well acted
Clean - now heres an interesting indie film starting the great asian actress maggie cheung . she plays a yoko ono / courtney love type character who is trying to pull her life together after a descent into heroin addiction . the movie travels from canada to britain to france to the united states (set your dvd to english subtitles , 4 or 5 different languages in this movie) . its is a story of matter of fact recovery . there is no melodrama here , just a person who knows that they have screwed up badly and has to do the best with what shes got . this is a small film that deserves a bigger audience . it is smart , well acted and excellent
okay . 12 is about as many movies as i can do today . i have another dozen or so still to do and will get to them as soon as i can . hopefully by this time next week . maybe even tomorrow or this weekend . we'll see . in the meantime , check a few of these movies out . there are some good ones

oh mannn , there's nothing worse than a nasty head cold . you do have choices to deal with it . take every medication you can get you hands on and it will last 7 days or do nothing and it will last a week . there is a third choice . drink copious amounts or orange juice , eat lots of soup , rent a ton of movies and of course , enjoy a sausage or two
